Nevada Revised Statute 618.375(1): Nevada Revised Statute 618.375(1): Duties of employers. Every employer shall furnish employment and a place of employment which are free from recognized hazards that are causing or are likely to cause death or serious physical harm to his or her employees. In the equipment maintenance area at the Las Vegas Recycling facility, employees were exposed to potential serious injury, such as being struck by a falling compressed gas cylinder, or exposure to fire or explosion in the event of a release of acetylene from a compressed gas cylinder damaged in a fall. A compressed gas cylinder containing acetylene was stored in the maintenance area where employees performed maintenance on forklifts and other mobile equipment, and was not secured from falling in any way. One feasible method of abatement is for the employer to provide a storage area for compressed gas cylinders which allows for the cylinders to be secured in storage. Reference: American National Standards Institute/American Welding Society standard Z49.1:2005 "Safety in Welding, Cutting and Allied Processes. Page 28, Part II, Specific Processes. Chapter 10, Oxyfuel Gas Welding and Cutting Safety. 10.8.2.1 Protection. Cylinders shall be stored where they will not be exposed to physical damage, tampering, or subject to temperatures which would raise the contents above the limits of 10.8.1.8. Cylinders shall be stored away from elevators, stairs, or gangways in assigned places where cylinders will not be knocked over or damaged by passing or falling objects. Cylinders shall be secured in storage to prevent falling.
