What this inspection record means

OSHA opens inspections for many reasons — routine scheduling under a national or local emphasis program, an employee complaint or referral, or a follow-up after a reported injury. Opening or conducting an inspection is not itself an allegation or a finding that this employer broke any rule; any findings appear as the citations listed below, and citations can be contested, reduced, or withdrawn.

Nevada Revised Statute 618.375(1): Duties of employers: Every employer
shall furnish
employment and a place of employment which are free from recognized
hazards that are causing
or are likely to cause death or serious physical harm to his or her
employees:
At the Geneva Polymer Products, LLC workplace, located at 14555 South
Highway 95, Boulder City, NV 89005, casting employees were exposed to
serious fire and explosion hazards from sixty gallons of NOROX MEKP -925,
with 32 to 35 percent of MEKP. The NOROX MEKP - 925, stored in the
flammable cabinet in manufacturer, one gallon, plastic containers, exposed
employees as follows:
I.The NOROX MEKP -925 was stored within 25 feet of containers
with flammable chemicals, such as acetone and styrene.
II.The NOROX MEKP -925 was also stored in an area where the
storage temperature requirements may not always be met,
especially in the summer time.
One feasible method of abatement, among others, would be to store the NOROX
MEKP -925 in a segregated storage container that is capable of maintaining
the
recommended storage temperature of 80 degrees Fahrenheit, or below, as per
the
material safety data sheet (MSDS), and to ensure that the storage
container is at
least 25 feet away from other incompatible materials (chemicals). This
can be
accomplished by storing the NOROX MEKP -925 by itself, in a small
refrigerator, as long as the refrigerator is used for the sole purpose of
storing
NOROX MEKP -925, and does not contain food or other incompatible items. The
refrigerator must be stored at least 25 feet away from other incompatible
materials.
Reference: Fire Code (NFPA 1, 2012 Edition): Chapter 60, Paragraph
60.5.1.12.3 Materials that are incompatible shall not be stored within the
same
cabinet or enclosure. Hazardous Material Code (NFPA 400, 2013 Edition):
Chapter 14: Paragraph 14.2.12.10.1 Storage area shall be maintained within
the
recommended storage temperature range for the materials requiring
refrigerated
storage. Chapter14, Paragraph 14.3.2.9 Separation Distance, Sub-Paragraph
1 Incompatible materials and flammable liquids shall not be stored within
25 feet
(7.6 meter) of organic peroxide formulations.
