Labor and Employment Article, Section 5-104(a): The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees: (a)Date of Violation:06/07/13 Location:Sport Auto Body/Collision Shop Equipment:Two De Vilbiss Concept/Cure Spray Booths; Model #CCDB-9325-SA Condition:Employees were exposed to fire and explosion hazards when operating and working around the spray booth curing oven, where regularly scheduled preventive maintenance beyond filter changes was not performed since the units were installed in 1989. Among other methods, one feasible and accessible means of abatement would be to follow the manufacturer's recommendations for regularly scheduled maintenance, inspection, and testing of the curing oven; or in lieu of manufacturer's recommendations, develop and implement a schedule of regular inspection, maintenance, and testing per the requirements of National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 86 Standard for Ovens and Furnaces, Chapter 7: Commissioning, Operations, Maintenance, Inspection, and Testing. Abatement documentation (photographs, receipts, copies of programs, training certification, etc.) is required for this item.
