General-duty citation text
Labor and Employment Article, Section 5-104(a): The employer did not furnish employement and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely ot cause death or serious physical harm to employees: (a)Date of Violation:03/31/14 Location:Parking Lot in Front of Building Condition:An employee was permitted to be in the work area of an operating skid steer equipped with a fork grapple attachment. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is for the employer to ensure that employees maintain a safe distance from power equipment including, but not limited to, skid steers that are being operated. This would be in accordance with a manufacuter's (Bobcat) written safety rule on page XII of Operation & Maintenance Manual 6900864 (1-03) Revised (5-05) which states "DO NOT permit personnel to be in the work area when operating the machine and attachment." Abatement documentation (photographs, receipts, copies of programs, training certification, etc.) is required for this item.
