General-duty citation text
Nevada Revised Statute 618.375(1): Duties of employers. Every employer shall furnish employment and a place of employment which are free from recognized hazards that are causing or are likely to cause death or serious physical harm to his or her employees: Two steel storage racks located in the warehouse near the shipping and receiving area were used to store pallets of boxed material and were not secured to the floor of the building to prevent them from falling. This potentially exposed employees to possible crushing injuries should items fall off the shelves or if the racks were to tip over and land on the employees. Reference ANSI MH 16.1 Specification for Design, Testing, and Utilization of Industrial Steel Storage Racks. Section 1.4.7 Column Base Plates and Anchors. The bottom of all columns shall be furnished with column base plates, as specified in Section 7.2. All rack column shall be anchored to the floor with anchor bolts capable of resisting the forces caused by horizontal and vertical loads on the rack. One feasible means of abatement would be to follow ANSI MH 16.1 paragraph 1.4.7 (anchor down racks).
