29 CFR 1910.133(a)(1): The employer did not ensure that each affected employee uses appropriate eye or face protection when exposed to eye or face hazards from flying particles, molten metal, liquid chemicals, acids or caustic liquids, chemical gases or vapors, or potentially injurious light radiation: On or about June 9, 2011, employees performing paint equipment clean-up operations in the Carpenter and Display Are in Building 1 were exposed to eye burns and sever irritation from wood dies (i.e. #S150 Clear Slik Finish and #3100 Clear Rain Wet Sheen) and the employer failed to effectively ensure that chemical goggles were used. Abatement documentation is required for this item in accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1903.19(d).

29 CFR 1910.138(a): The employer did not select and require employee(s) to use appropriate hand protection when employees' hands were exposed to hazards such as those from skin absorption of harmful substances; severe cuts or lacerations; severe abrasion; punctures; chemical burns; thermal burns; and harmful temperature extremes. On or about June 9th, 2011, employees were exposed to dermal conditions, such as but not limited to eczema and dermatitis, from skin absorption of wood stains such as #S150 Clear Slik Finish and #3100 Clear Rain Wet Sheen while performing spray painting/coating and equipment cleaning operations in the Carpenter and Display Shop in Plant 1, and the employer failed to effectively implement the use of appropriate gloves. Abatement documentation is required of this item in accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1903.19(d).

29 CFR 1910.242(b): Compressed air used for cleaning purposes was not reduced to less than 30 p.s.i.: On or about June 9, 2011, spray painting employees were exposed to abrasions from compressed air at 95 psi while performing wood cleaning operations in the Carpenter and Display area in Building 1, and the employer failed to effectively reduce the air pressure to less than 30 psi and add dead end pressure relief on the air gun. There is no abatement certification or documentation required for this item.
