OSH ACT of 1970 Section (5)(a)(1):     Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazards of electrical shock and struck by injuries.      a) Belmont Plating Works, Inc. - Throughout the plating areas - Electric Hoists were not inspected for damage and were not taken out of service until repaired.    Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable means of abatement to correct this hazard is to conform with the requirements of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers for Overhead Hoists (Underhung) - ASME B30.16-2007, Inspection, Testing, and Maintenance, chapter 16-2.1-16-2.1.3., by requiring the implementation of the frequent and periodic inspections for the hoist, ropes and slings.

29 CFR 1910.22(a)(1):     All places of employment, passageways, storerooms or service rooms were not kept clean and orderly or in a sanitary condition.    The employer did not ensure that all places of employment and passageways be kept in an orderly condition.    a) In Building #1 - The Electroless Plating Area - The walking platform had uneven heights; 4", 9", and 7".  The 7" platform was not flush to the platform edge due to a water pipe running below the platform.  Employees were exposed to slip, trip and falls due to the uneven platform heights.
