29 CFR 1910.176(a): Use of mechanical equipment. Where mechanical handling equipment is used, sufficient safe clearances shall be allowed for aisles, at loading docks, through doorways and wherever turns or passage must be made. Aisles and passage ways shall be kept clear and in good repair, with no obstruction across or in aisles that could create a hazard. Permanent aisles and passageways shall be appropriately marked. a) On or about June 4, 2011, a fork lift truck operator was involved in a property damage incident when they encountered a pallet of product stacked improperly in the aisle. The operator stopped the fork lift truck to avoid colliding with the pallet causing the top pallet of the operator's load to fall. b) On or about June 4, 2011, a fork lift truck operator was involved in a property damage incident when attempting to maneuver around a support beam. The top pallet of the operator's load caught on a stacked pallet breaking the pallet's strapping and causing the pallet's product to fall. c) On or about June 6, 2011, a fork lift truck operator was involved in a property damage incident when they attempted to maneuver their fork lift truck out of a congested aisle. The top pallet of the truck's load caught on an adjacent pallet of product stacked on the floor causing the truck's top pallet to fall.
