General-duty citation text
OSH ACT of 1970 Section (5)(a)(1): The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to struck by hazards. a) On or about June 27, 2011 and at times prior, Pioneer Natural Resources did not ensure that employees were protected from struck by hazards. The tongs on rig 9615 were assembled with improper sized pins, improper keepers, unlatched keepers, as well as pins and keepers installed upside down. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to supply proper pins and keepers which meet the manufacturers specifications. This along with training of the employees charged with assembling and using the tongs would abate the hazard.
