Each employee on a walking/working surface (horizontal and verticalsurface) with an unprotected side or edge which is 6 feet (1.8 m) or more above a lower level shall be protected from falling by the use of guardrailsystems, safety net systems, or personal fall arrest systems.    (a)  Employees conducting demolition operations from a flat roof deck were not protected from falling to the lower level. This exposed employees to a fall hazard of approximately 28 feet.

29 CFR 1926.453(b)(2)(v):     A body belt shall be worn and a lanyard attached to the boom or basket when working from anaerial lift.Note to paragraph (b)(2)(v): As of January 1, 1998, subpart M of this part (1926.502(d)) provides that body belts are not acceptable aspart of a personal fall arrest system. The use of a body belt in a tethering system or in a restraint system is acceptable and is regulated under1926.502(e).    (a)   Employees conducting demolition operations from two seperate aerial lifts were not protected from a fall/thrown hazard by using a safety harness and lanyard attached to the lifts. This exposed employees to fall hazards ranging from 25 to 30 feet.
