OSH ACT of 1970 Section (5)(a)(1): Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a crushing hazard.    (a) Location - Route 108, Somersworth, NH, 03878  On or about 07/26/11, Employees were operating five VS10 Two Post Vehicle Lifts that the overhead safety shut-offs were rendered in-operable and the vehicles would come in contact with the garage door, garage door opener and sprinkler heads prior to coming into contact with the shut-off switch. Three of the lifts overhead safety switches did not work as they were disconnected.    Among other feasible means of abatement is to follow the safety and instructions in the manufacturers "Safety Manual from the Automotive Lift Institute" or the American National Standard ANSI/ALI ALOIM: 2008 "Standard for Automotive Lifts - Safety Requirements for Operation, Inspection and Maintenance."
