29 CFR 1960.8(a): The head of the agency did not furnish to each employee employment and a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that are causing or are likely to cause death or serious physical harm: (a) Raceway area: On 08/03/11 and at times prior thereto, a worker was not wearing the manufacturers originally installed seatbelt while operating a Hyster 110 forklift. Among others, one feasible and accepted method to correct this hazard is to implement a program of training, enforcement, and discipline regarding adherence to warning signs on equipment and compliance with the operators manual. The additional forklift operator training should include ensuring operators understand the hazards and safety devices of the equipment they are operating. Emphasis should be placed on seatbelt use with ROPS equipped vehicles. Note: Abatement certification IS NOT required for this item.
