29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): One or more methods of machine guarding was not provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks. The employer failed to protect employees from cuts, lacerations, fractures and amputations while working on lathes, CNC machines and band saws. a) Sears/Craftsmen band saw. Unused portion of the blade was not guarded. b) Chucker lathe. Missing chuck guard. c) CNC Machine/Vertical lathe. HURCO hawk 5D (model 950323), JeBlond Makino vertical CNC (model FMC 106A30, Serial no. LM013) and Tree Machine CNC (Model VMC 1050/40, Serial no. 920-93-1024). There were no barrier guards, safety devices, or other methods of guarding. Abatement documentation is required for this item in accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1903.19(d).
