29 CFR 1910.1030(d)(2)(vii)(A): Contaminated needles and other contaminated sharps were bent, recapped, or removed: (a) Sava Senior Care Dba Centennial Healthcare Center: On or before 8/31/11, the employer did not ensure that contaminated needles and other contaminated sharps were not bent, recapped, or removed. Employees used disposable razors to shave residents of the long term care center. Employees recapped the contaminated razors prior to disposal. This condition exposed employees to a bloodborne pathogens hazard.

29 CFR 1910.1030(d)(4)(iii)(A)(2)(i): During use, containers for contaminated sharps were not easily accessible to personnel or located as close as was feasible to the immediate area where sharps were used or could be reasonably anticipated to be found: (a) Sava Senior Care Dba Centennial Healthcare Center: On or before 8/31/11, the employer did not ensure that, during use, containers for contaminated sharps were easily accessible to personnel or located as close as was feasible to the immediate area where sharps were used or could be reasonably anticipated to be found. Employees used syringes to inject insulin and other medication, and used lancets to test blood sugar levels of residents of the long term care center. This activity was conducted in the resident rooms without a sharps container in the room. The nearest sharps container was located on the nursing cart outside the residents room or at the nurses station. The distance to a sharps container was approximately ten to fifty feet away. This condition exposed employees to a bloodborne pathogens hazard. (b) Sava Senior Care Dba Centennial Healthcare Center: On or before 8/31/11, the employer did not ensure that, during use, containers for contaminated sharps were easily accessible to personnel or located as close as was feasible to the immediate area where sharps were used or could be reasonably anticipated to be found.
