Work rests were not kept adjusted closely to the wheel with a maximum opening of one-eighth inch to prevent the work from being jammed between the wheel and the rest, which may cause wheel breakage.    a. On or about 9/15/11, a Wilton Challenger brand bench grinder did not have a work rest guarding the left grinding wheel.    b. On or about 9/15/11, a Wilton Challenger brand bench grinder had a work rest that was more than one-eighth inch from the right grinding wheel.

29 CFR 1910.215(b)(9):     Safety guards of the types described in Subparagraphs (3) and (4) of this paragraph, where the operator stands in front of the opening, were not constructed so that the peripheral protecting member can be adjusted to the constantly decreasing diameter of the wheel. The distance between the abrasive wheel periphery and the adjustable tongue or the end of the peripheral member at the top exceeded one-fourth inch.    a. On or about 9/15/11, a Wilton Challenger brand bench grinder did not have an adjustable tongue guarding the right grinding wheel.      b. On or about 9/15/11, a Wilton Challenger brand bench grinder had an adjustable tongue that was more than one-fourth inch from the grinding wheel.
