29 CFR 1926.850(a): Prior to permitting employees to start demolition operations, an engineering survey was not made, by a competent person, of the structure to determine the condition of the framing, floors and walls, and possibility of unplanned collapse of any portion of the structure. (a) Superior Forge & Steel Corp., 1820 McClain Road, Lima, Ohio: On or about October 12, 2011, the employer did not conduct an engineering review of the roof structure before having contract workers demolish a section of the concrete roof. While working on the roof, workers were exposed to a fall hazard due to the instability of the roofing material. One worker fell approximately 65 feet when a section of the roof collapsed.
