The guarding device shall be in conformity with any appropriate standards therefor, or, in the absence of applicable specific standards,shall be so designed and constructed as to prevent the operator from having any part of his body in the danger zone during the operating cycle. a. In machining building, the Haas CNC Mill model VF4, serial number 44344 was not guarded in that the interlock device failed to detect the opened access door and stop the machine's moving parts. b. In machining building, the Haas CNC Mill model VF3, serial number 6277 was not guarded in that the interlock device failed to detect the opened access door and stop the machine's moving parts.

29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): Types of guarding. One or more methods of machine guarding shall be provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips andsparks. Examples of guarding methods are-barrier guards, two-hand tripping devices,electronic safety devices, etc. In the boring building, the sproket/chuck on the LeBlond Horizontal Boring Mill, serial number 18932 was not guarded. The R & J Cylinder and Machine, Inc. was previously cited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard or its equivalent standard 1910.212(a)(1), which was contained in OSHA inspection number 314587346, citation number 01, item number 004 and was affirmed as a final order on September 22, 2010, with respect to a workplace located at 2155 Progress Street, Dover, OH. 44622.
