OSH ACT of 1970 Section (5)(a)(1):     The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees.    (a) W.G. Canfield, Inc. on or about November 28, 2011, at the site located near the intersection of Monroe St and Gartland Ave. in Sandusky, OH: The employer did not require employees collecting solid waste alongside roadways to wear high visibility apparel. An employee performing residential curbside pick-up without a high visibility vest was struck by an oncoming vehicle, injuring the worker.     One feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to ensure employees wear high visibility garments as prescribed in appendix B and C of ANSI/ISEA 107-2004 High Visibility Apparel. During routine residential waste pick-up, when it is anticipated an employee will enter the roadway, the employer should utilize ANSI Z245.1-2008 Section 6.1.7.8, in that the employer requires high visibility apparel as appropriate to the tasks assigned and conditions that employees will experience as prescribed in appendix B and C of ANSI/ISEA 107-2004 High Visibility Apparel.
