29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1):     One or more methods of machine guarding was not provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks:        On or about February 28, 2012, employees of Conex Cable, Inc., were exposed to hazards from rotating parts on the Strand Machine S21.  The winder at the end of the machine, prior to the forming rolls, was not completely enclosed to prevent access to the rotating spindle.    Abatement certification is required of this item in accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1903.19(c).

One or more methods of machine guarding shall be provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks. Examples of guarding methods are-barrier guards, two-hand tripping devices,electronic safety devices, etc.    On February 28, 2012, operators were exposed to hazards from moving parts on the Strand Machine S21 by opening the existing guard and utilizing flashlights which broke the plane of the guard to view progress of the wire on the bobbins.    Abatement documentation is required for this item in accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1903.19 (d).
