29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): One or more methods of machine guarding was not provided to protect the operatorand other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks. Examples of guarding methods are barrier guards, two-hand tripping devices,electronic safety devices, etc. WORKSHOP: The following equipment were unguarded. 1. The inclined vertical belt and upper pulley of the Dumore Utility Tool Post Grinder were unguarded. 2. The rotating chuck of the Southbend lathe was unguarded.

29 CFR 1910.215(a)(4): On offhand grinding machines, work rests shall be used to support the work. They shall be of rigid construction and designed to be adjustable to compensate for wheel wear. Work rests shall be kept adjusted closely to the wheel with a maximum opening of one-eighth inch to prevent the work from being jammed between the wheel and the rest, which may cause wheel breakage. The work rest shall be securely clamped after each adjustment. WORKSHOP: The left work rest of the Delta bench grinder was not adjusted to the wheel with one- eighth of an inch (1/8") opening and the right abrasive wheel was not equipped with a work rest.

29 CFR 1910.215(b)(9): 29 CFR 1910.215(b)(9): The distance between the abrasive wheel periphery(s) and the adjustable tongue or the end of the safety guard peripheral member at the top exceeded one fourth inch. WORKSHOP: The tongue guards of the Delta abrasive grinder were adjusted to the wheel with openings greater than one fourth (1/4) of an inch.
