At the job site, an employee was observed installing asphalt shingles with a pneumatic nail gun without any type of eye protection.

29 CFR 1926.501(b)(10):     Employess engaged in roofing activities on low sloped roofs, with unprotected sides and edges 6 feet or more above lower levels were not protected from falling:    At the job site, an employee was observed installing asphalt shingles on a roof with a slope of approximately 4/12.  The employee was not using any type of fall protection.  The employee was exposed to a fall of approximately 10 feet, 4 inches.

29 CFR 1926.503(a)(1)    The employer did not provide a training program, including procedures to follow, for each employee exposed to a fall hazard.    At the job site, the employer failed to provide a training program for each employee who might be exposed to fall hazards.  The program shall enable each employee to recognize the hazards of falling and shall train each employee in the procedures to be followed in order to minimize these hazards.    Abatement certification and abatement documentation is required for this violation.  The documentation should include written verification of abatement, applicable measurements or monitoring results, and photographs or videos which you believe will be helpful.  The abatement certification sheet is enclosed with the citation(s).
