Section (5)(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazards associated with dust explosions, deflagrations, and other fire hazards. On or about 3/29/2012, West Cast House: The dust collection system associated with the chip melter #2 was not designed to prevent or minimize damage that would occur in the event of a dust explosion, deflagration or fire. Among other methods, a feasible abatement method to correct this hazard is to comply with NFPA 484 Standard for Combustible Metals, 2009. Including but not limited to: 1) Keeping dry type collectors outside as referenced in Section 6.3.2.5. 2) Provide deflagration venting as referenced in Section 6.3.5.6. Abatement documentation is required for this item.
