29 CFR 1926.501(b)(1): Each employee on a walking/working surface with an unprotected side or edge which was 6 feet (1.8 m) or more above a lower level was not protected from falling by the use of guardrail systems, safety net systems, or personal fall arrest systems.    (a)  Hykes Road Bridge - The employer did not ensure that employees working on the bridge deck with an open side at the eastern edge were protected from falls with guard rails, safety nets or personal fall protection, thereby exposing employees to a ten foot fall hazard on or about April 4, 2012.     (b)  Hykes Road Bridge - The employer did not ensure that employees working on the bridge deck with an open edge at the south eastern corner were protected from falls with guard rails, safety nets or personal fall protection, therbu exposing employees to a 30 foot fall hazard on or about April 4, 2012.     Abatement certification required within 10 days after abatement date.  The certification shall include a statement that abatement is complete, date and method of abatement, and states employees and their representatives were informed of this abatement.
