29 CFR 1910.242(b): Compressed air used for cleaning purposes was not reduced to less than 30 p.s.i.: On or about May 14, 2012, and at times prior thereto, employees in facility used compressed air in excess of 30 psig for cleaning purposes. The high pressure jet of the compressed air can project debris with dangerous force and the high pressures can damage skin, eyes and other body organs. The compressed air is used to clean debris from machined parts and tables. Air pressure from the nozzles was measured to be approximately 45 psi. Pursuant to 29 C.F.R. 1903.19, within ten (10) calendar days of the date of this citation, the employer must submit documentation showing that it is in compliance with the standard, including describing the steps that it is taking to ensure that the pressure in the air nozzles is reduced to 30 psig.

29 CFR 1910.305(g)(2)(iii): Flexible cords and cables were not connected to devices and fittings so that strain relief was provided that would prevent pull from being directly transmitted to joints or terminal screws: On or about May 14, 2012, and at times prior there to, an extension cord used to power a portable lamp did not have strain relief for the connection of the flexible cord to the plug. This electrical junction without strain relief exposed employees to arcing effects due to loose electrical connections where cord strain is directly transmitted to the wire. Pursuant to 29 C.F.R. 1903.19, within ten (10) calendar days of the date of this citation, the employer must submit documentation showing that it is in compliance with the standard, including describing the steps that it is taking to ensure that strain relief is used on extension cords.
