OSH ACT of 1970 Section (5)(a)(1):   The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to fall hazards:    a.   On or about 5/8/12, Mechanic Shop Bay Area :  Employees using a fiberglass step ladder to access storage area on top of the Parts Department used the top step of the ladder and jumped 2'-6" to the upper storage area.  Employee was exposed to falling from the top of the stepladder while climbing or descending.

29 CFR 1910.23(c)(1): Open-sided floors and/or platforms four feet or more above adjacent floor or ground level were not guarded with standard railings (or equivalent) and toeboards:    a.   On or about 05/08/2012, Caribbean Auto Mart - 4523 Estate Charlotte Amalie- Mechanic Shop bay-Part roof area, St. Thomas, VI  Auto:  Employees were exposed to fall hazards while working over an open side floor 8 ft.- 6 inches above the ground level, without a conventional fall protection system in place.    NOTE:  Documentation of abatement must be submitted for this citation item as required by 29 CFR 1903.19(d).

29 CFR 1910.151(c):   Where employees were exposed to injurious corrosive materials, suitable facilities for quick drenching or flushing of the eyes and body were not provided within the work area for immediate emergency use:    a.   On or about 05/08/2012, Caribbean Auto Mart - 4523 Estate Charlotte Amalie- Mechanic Shop bay area, St. Thomas, VI:  Employees were exposed to injurious corrosive materials such as Brake Part Cleaner, Throttle Body Cleaner, Antifreeze/Coolant used and/or handled during the car maintenance repairs. Access to suitable facilities for quick drenching or flushing of the eyes and body was not provided within the work area for immediate emergency use. The travel path from the hazard to the eyewash unit was not free of obstructions.    NOTE:   Certification of abatement is not required for this citation item as abatement was documented by the compliance safety and health officer during the inspection
