29 CFR 1910.212(a)(3)(ii): The point of operation of machines whose operation exposes an employee to injury, shall be guarded. The guarding device shall be in conformity with any appropriate standards therefor, or, in the absence of applicable specific standards, shall be so designed and constructed as to prevent the operator from having any part of his body in the danger zone during the operating cycle. On or about 05/30/2012, the employer did not ensure that employees were protected from putting their hands under the conveyor belt on the bag loaders and coming into contact with moving and rotating parts. Bag loaders were observed with an approximately 1 inch by 3 inch opening at the rear of the conveyor belts on the belts left side. This opening was observed on, but is not limited to, belt loaders #521256 and #521476.

29 CFR 1910.22(b)(2): Permanent aisles and passageways shall be appropriately marked. On or about 5/30/2012, the employer did not ensure that employees were adequately protected from tripping while walking around the outbound luggage carousel in the bag room. The carousel platform near the connecting roadway is on a raised platform, approx 1 inch above the surrounding floor. This lip is not well marked to identify it as a tripping hazard.
