29 CFR 1910.179(j)(2):  Frequent inspection. The following items shall be inspected for defects at intervals as defined in paragraph (j)(1)(ii) of this section or as specifically indicated, including observation during operation for any defects which might appear between regular inspections. All deficiencies such as listed shall be carefully examined and determination made as to whether they constitute a safety hazard:    On or about June 13, 2012, the employer did not ensure that frequent inspections were conducted on a 35 ton travel lift and a 110 ton travel tift used to lift boats of various sizes.   The hydraulic hoses and the tires on the trailer lifts were worn, cracked and deteriorating.  The belts on the travel lifts are frayed with red tracer showing.  Employer(s) were exposed to the hazards associated with a malfunctioning crane.

On or about June 13, 2012, the employer did not ensure that a 110 ton travel lift used to lift various size boats was periodically inspected.  The tires on the lift were excessively worn and damaged.  Employee(s) were exposed to hazards associated with a malfunctioning crane.

29 CFR 1910.180(d)(3)(iv):  Daily inspection for deterioration or leakage in air or hydraulic systems:    On or about June 13, 2012, the employer did not ensure that a daily inspection was conducted on a Gallion cherry picker the employees were using to move material throughout the yard area.  The Gallion cherry picker was leaking hydraulic fluid, and the hoses were cracked and worn.  Employees were exposed to the hazards associated with a malfunctioning crane.

29 CFR 1910.180(g)(1):  "Running ropes." A thorough inspection of all ropes in use shall be made at least once a month and a certification record which includes the date of inspection, the signature of the person who performed the inspection and an identifier for the ropes shall be prepared and kept on file where readily available. All inspections shall be performed by an appointed or authorized person. Any deterioration, resulting in appreciable loss of original strength shall be carefully observed and determination made as to whether further use of the rope would constitute a safety hazard. Some of the conditions that could result in an appreciable loss of strength are the following:     On or about June 13, 2012, the employer did not ensure that monthly inspections were conducted on the hoist ropes of a cherry picker used throughout the yard area.  A certification records were not prepared and kept on file.   Employee(s) were exposed to the hazards associated with a malfunctioning crane.

29 CFR 1910.213(d)(1):  Each circular crosscut table saw shall be guarded by a hood which shall meet all the requirements of paragraph (c)(1) of this section for hoods for circular ripsaws.    Covered work area:  On or about June 13, 2012, the employer did not ensure that a Rockwell Unisaw (table saw) used to cut star board was equipped with a guard to cover the saw blade.  Employees were exposed to hazard of coming in contact with the saw blade.
