29 CFR 1926.451(g)(4)(i): Guardrail systems were not installed along all open sides and ends of platforms before being released for use by employees other than erection/dismantling crews: a) Jobsite, 811 Deborah Street, Lawrenceville NJ, 08648 Front of building: Employees of KJ. Stucco were working on the second buck up without using guardrails, observed on or about 06/01/2012. ABATEMENT NOTE: Guardrail systems shall be installed along all open sides and ends of platforms. Guardrail systems shall be installed before the scaffold is released for use by employees other than erection/dismantling crews. A standard guardrail system includes a top rail, a midrail, and toe boards. The height of the top rail for scaffolds must be between 38 inches (0.97 m) and 45 inches (1.2 m). When the cross point of cross bracing is used as a top rail, it must be between 38 inches (0.97 m) and 48 inches (1.3 m) above the work platform. Midrails must be installed approximately halfway between the top rail and the platform surface. When a cross point of cross bracing is used as a midrail, it must be between 20 inches (0.5 m) and 30 inches (0.8 m) above the work platform.
