29 CFR 1926.1052(c)(1): Stairways having four or more risers or rising more than 30 inches, whichever is less, were not equipped with at least one handrail and one stairrail system along each unprotected side or edge: a) Bartran Construction, Inc. at 2250 Krisron Rd., Fort Collins, CO 80528: On or before July 7, 2012, the controlling employer did not ensure that framing subcontractor employees were protected from fall hazards when using the stairs to access the second floor and to access the basement, in that both sets of stairs were missing stairrails and hand rails on both open sides. Both sets of stairs included 16 steps, with a rise of 7 3/4" over a run of 10 5/8". Condition exposed employees to fall hazards of up to 10'. Abatement note: 29 CFR 1926.1052(c)(3) provides that the stairrails shall not be less than 36" from the upper surface of the stairrail system to the surface of the tread. This section also provides that midrails shall be provided between the top rail and the stairway steps.
