What this inspection record means

OSHA opens inspections for many reasons — routine scheduling under a national or local emphasis program, an employee complaint or referral, or a follow-up after a reported injury. OSH ACT of 1970 Section (5)(a)(1): Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to amputation and crushing hazards. a) On or about June 18, 2012 and at times prior, Bartlett Grain Co. LLP did not ensure that employees were protected from personnel hoist hazards. The spread metal used to guard the hoist platform was placed too close to the opening, nor was it installed high enough to protect employees from contacting the platform. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard would be to install the guarding around the personnel hoist in accordance with American National Standard Institute A17.1.
