29 CFR 1910.151(c): Where employees were exposed to injurious corrosive materials, suitable facilities for quick drenching or flushing of the eyes and body were not provided within the work area for immediate emergency use [ANSIZ358.1-2004]: On or about 08/02/12, at The Ritz-Carlton-St. Thomas, St. Thomas, VI . An emergency eye wash station was not provided in the immediate area when employees used and/or handled corrosive products as follows: a. At the main kitchen area. Employees used and/or handled products such as Oasis Heavy Duty All Purpose Degreaser Cleaner (9-octadecenoic acid), Oasis Compac Glass Cleaner (ammonium hydroxide), Mikroklene (phosphoric acid) and Solid Power (sodium hydroxide) during dishwashing operations. b. At the housekeeping products storage/re-filling areas. Employees used and/or handled products such as Chemtron Bacteriacide I disinfectant (alkyl dimethyl benzyl ammonium chloride) and Ecolab Gel Pro (sodium hypochlorite) during portable bottles re-filling operations. c. At the Sails restaurant kitchen area. Employees used and/or handled products such as Solid Power (sodium hydroxide), Oasis Compac Multipurpose cleaner (9-octadecenoic acid), and Lemon-Eze (dodecylbenzene sulfonic acid) during dishwashing operations. d. At the pool pumps area. Employees used and/or handled products such as Nu-Clo tabs (Trichloroisocyanuric acid) during pool maintenance operations. e. At the Coconut Cove kitchen area. The employer did not implement their written hazard communication program to ensure material safety data sheets availability and labeling of hazardous products in their workplace during the following operations: a. At the purchasing/storage area. Employees used and/or handled Praxair carbon dioxide (UN 1013) tanks used at beverage dispensing areas. b. At the main kitchen area. Employees used and/or handled products such as Oasis Compac Glass Cleaner (ammonium hydroxide) during dishwashing operations. c. At the housekeeping products storage/re-filling areas. Employees used and/or handled products such as Chemtron CT 424-C cleaner, Focus glass cleaner, All Be-Gone, Chembreeze, Johnson Diversey Shine-Up and Ecolab Gel Pro (sodium hypochlorite) during portable bottles re-filling operations. d. At the Sails restaurant kitchen area. Employees used and/or handled products such as Silver Power (sodium carbonate) and Solitaire (sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate) and Lemon-Eze (dodecylbenzene sulfonic acid) during dishwashing operations. e.
