OSH ACT of 1970 Section (5)(a)(1):     The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees:    a/  Inside of the production area, the two-hand control buttons used by employee(s) to cycle the Roper Whitley Auto Brake, m/n AB1014, s/n 365-1196, were not designed and constructed to protect each hand control from unintended or inadvertent operation.      One method of abatement to correct this apparent hazard is to design and construct the two-hand device to protect each hand control against unintended or inadvertent operation as required by ANSI B11.19, paragraph 8.4.1.1.    DISCLAIMER:  a/  The employer is not limited to the abatement method(s) suggested by OSHA.  b/  The employer is responsible for selecting and implementing an effective abatement method.

29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1):     One or more methods of machine guarding was not provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks:    a/  Inside of the maintenance department, the chuck and unused bit belonging to the Clarke Metal Worker Drill Press, m/n BT1029, s/n 04J2, were unguarded.  The unused portion of the blade belonging to the Grizzly Vertical Band Saw, s/n 770571, was unguarded.

29 CFR 1910.212(a)(3)(ii):     Point(s) of operation of machinery were not guarded to prevent employee(s) from having any part of their body in the danger zone(s) during operating cycle(s):    a/  Inside of the production area, the point-of-operation belonging to the Roper Whitney Auto Brake, m/n AB1014, s/n 365-1196, was inadequately guarded.  The distance between the ram and the die was measured at approximately three-eighths of an inch.
