OSH ACT of 1970 Section (5)(a)(1):  The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to crushing hazards:    (a)  At the establishment employee(s) using automotive lifts (Rotary and Hunter) in the service department were exposed to crushing hazards due to no daily or periodic inspections being performed by the employer to ensure the reliability and safe operation of the automotive lifts.    (b)  Employee(s) operating the 2nd and 5th automotive lifts in the service department were exposed to electrical hazards due to the automotive lift's circuit breakers tripping out several times a day when lifting vehicles from the ground.    (c)  Employee(s) operating automotive lift #2 in the service department were exposed to crushing hazards due to hydraulice oil leaking out from an unknown location from the left surface mounted lift post.     (d)  Employee(s) using automotive lift #5 were exposed to a crushing hazard due to a defective safety locking pin on the rear extendable arm of the automotive lift #5 in the service department.  The rear extendable arm had a broken safety locking pin that allowed the extendable section of the arm to be pulled out.    (e)  Employee(s) using automotive lift #2 in the service department were exposed to a crushing hazard due to a defective safety locking pin on the right side arm of lift #2 in the service department.  The right side safety locking pin would not engage, thus allowing the right side arm to not lock in the correct position when lifting a vehicle.      Among other methods, the following are feasible and acceptable abatement methods to correct these hazards are to:    Ensure all automotive lifts are operated in accordance with the Automotive Lift Institute ALOIM - 2008 standard for automotive lifts paragraph 4.4.2 which states:  the operator shall use applicable safety features provided on the automotive lift, and operate the lifts in accordance with manufacturers instructions.      Additionally follow the guidance as specified in the Automotive Lift Institute ALOIM - 2008 standard for automotive lifts, paragraph 5.1 which states: The owner or employer shall establish a periodic inspection procedure in accordance with the recommendations of the lift manufacturer;    and paragraph 6.2.1 which states:  The owner or employer shall perform repair maintenance procedures whenever they are called for by the lift operator, qualified lift inspector, or planned maintenance technician.
