29 CFR 1926.754(e)(1): During the construction period, the employer placing a load on steel joists shall ensure that the load is distributed so as not to exceed the carrying capacity of any steel joist. Location: 227 Carlton Ave., Brooklyn, NY. a) The Palfinger PK 72002 truck-crane operator excessively loaded the 4th floor's temporary deck (which was supported by steel joists) with construction materials including, but not limited to, pallets of CMU blocks, cement bags, and jumbo sand bags. The operator did not know the capacity of the temporary deck and was not aware of the weight of the load he was hoisting eventually leading to the partial collapse of the building; on or about 9/10/12.
