29 CFR 1910.133(a)(1): The employer shall ensure that each affected employee uses appropriate eye or face protection when exposed to eye or face hazards from flying particles, molten metal, liquid chemicals, acids or caustic liquids, chemical gases or vapors, or potentially injurious light radiation. a. At the workplace, the employer did not provide proper personal protective equipment to ensure that employees were protected from hot oil splashing onto their hands and face. On or about July 10,2012, an employee was splashed with hot oil while clearing a clogged oil line resulting in burns to the employees hands and face.

29 CFR 1910.132(d)(1): The employer shall assess the workplace to determine if hazards are present, or are likely to be present, which necessitate the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). If such hazards are present, or likely to be present, the employer shall: 29 CFR 1910.132(d)(1)(i): Select, and have each affected employee use, the types of PPE that will protect the affected employee from the hazards identified in the hazard assessment. 1. At the workplace, the employer did not ensure that all potential hazards to include but not limited to, hot oil being released through a valve, were identified through a job hazard analysis, exposing employees to burn hazards. At the workplace, on or about July 10,2012, an employee was clearing a pipe on fryer number zero located in the fryer room near the south wall that became jammed with crumbs from tortillas that were used to make fajitas. The employee was hooking an airhose to the nipple on a valve used to clear the pipe. While opening the valve, the airhose connection dislodged, releasing approximately 360 degree hot oil that splashed onto the employees hands and face.
