One or more methods of machine guarding shall be provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks. Examples of guarding methods are-barrier guards, two-hand tripping devices,electronic safety devices, etc.          a. At the workplace, the employer did not provide adequate guarding at an ingoing nip point, exposing employees to an amputation hazard.  Wire draw machine numbers 1, 2, 3 and 4 were not adequately guarded. The distance between the brake and guard was greater that 1/4 inch.

Handrails shall be provided on at least one side of closed stairways preferably on the right side descending. Stair railings and handrails shall be installed in accordance with the provisions of 1910.23.        a. At the workplace,  the employer did not provide standard railings to a stairway located near the loading docks in the southeast corner of the warehouse,  exposing employees to a fall hazard.
