The employer did not ensure that ladders and other safe means of exit from the trench were positioned as to be no more than 25 feet away from any worker in the trench. The employer had not complied with the provisions of 29 CFR 1926.652(b)(1)(i) a. 1 Brady Road, Lake Hopatcong, NJ Employees performing trenching activities by hand were not protected from cave-ins by an adequate protective system. Employer did not provide sloping or benching, trench boxes, or shoring to protect employees from cave-in hazards associated with the trenching activities.
