29 CFR 1910.178(a)(4): Modifications and additions which affect capacity and safe operation shall not be performed by the customer or user without manufacturers prior written approval. Capacity, operation, and maintenance instruction plates, tags, or decals shall be changed accordingly. a. At the workplace, the employer used 6 foot fork tines instead of 42 inch tines recommended on a Komatsu forklift to move assembled signs around the warehouse. The employer had not obtained written documentation from the manufacturer of the forklift to modify or use additional equipment on the forklift.
