OSH ACT of 1970 Section (5)(a)(1): The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employee(s) were exposed to fall hazards from a hand elevator with an open-sided platform. Elevator Building #1. Employee(s) who stood on an open-sided platform of a hand elevator to access the bin deck were exposed to falls up to 47 feet above ground. There is no documentation or certification required for this item.

29 CFR 1910.272(q)(5): The employer shall equip bucket elevators with a motion detection device which will shut-down the bucket elevator when the belt speed is reduced by no more than 20% of the normal operating speed. Elevator Building #1. The inside leg bucket elevator did not have a motion detection device to shut down the bucket elevator in the even the belt speed would be reduced (slowed) by 20% of the normal operating speed. This condition could contribute to an explosion. Abatement certification is required for this item in accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1903.19(c).

Elevator Building #1. The inside leg bucket elevator did not have a belt monitoring device that would initiate an alarm to employees when the belt was not tracking properly. This condition could contribute to an explosion. Abatement certification is required for this item in accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1903.19(c).
