OSH ACT of 1970 Section (5)(a)(1): The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to crushing hazards while using automotive lifts: Service Bays: (a) The employer failed to have the operator inspect or take notice on a daily basis, any deformation of lift structural components, (b) failed to establish a periodic inspection procedure for the automotive lifts to ensure reliability and safe operation, (c) and failed to train operators in the safe use and operation of automotive lifts. Among other methods, feasible means of abatement by which the hazards may be corrected are as follows: 1. Establish compliance with ANSI/ILI ALOIM 2008, "American National Standard for Automotive Lifts - Safety Requirements for Operation, Inspection and Maintenance." 2. Take all appropriate steps to follow the recommended inspection and maintenance procedures of the lift manufacturer, and train operators in the safe use and operation of automotive lifts.
