29 CFR 1910.1030(d)(2)(vii): Contaminated needles and other contaminated sharps shall not be bent, recapped, or removed: a) At the Pre-Operation department, the employer did not ensure that employees using the Acuvance Plus Safety I.V. Catheter 20 G and Acuvance Plus Safety I.V. Catheter 22 needles were doing so safely. Nurses recaped the needles while preparing patients for the surgeries and procedures, exposing employees to the bloodborne pathogens, Hepatitis B Virus (HBV) and Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV).
