29 CFR 1910.132(d)(1): The employer did not assess the workplace to determine if hazards were present, or were likely to be present, which necessitated the use of personal protective equipment: Establishment: Employer did not include in their personal protective equipment (PPE) assessment appropriate personal protection against splashes from shortening at approximately 275 degrees Fahrenheit while returning the racks of the fry baskets to the back of the vats. Appropriate PPE includes, but is not limited to, face shield, splash goggles, apron, and gauntlet gloves. An employee received thermal burns while replacing a fry basket rack that fell into the vat splashing shortening on the employee.
