Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm in that employees were exposed to: Slips and falls while working/walking on the corrugator's exit discharge roller conveyor in the dunnage area. Among other methods, a feasible abatement method to correct this hazard would be to comply with The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) B20.1-2009, Safety Standard for Conveyors and Related Equipment, Section 6.11.1, Roller and Wheel Conveyors references installing tread plates between the rollers to provide a stable walking and working surfaces. In addition the employer should require employees to use the tread plates and not ride the conveyors adjacent to the stacks of products moving down the production lines and enforce the rule. NewCorr Packaging was previously cited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard or its equivalent standard, Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970 which was contained in OSHA inspection number 315517623, citation number 1, item number 1, issued on August 29, 2012, with respect to a workplace located at 66 Lyman Street, Northborough, Massachusetts. The final order date for the citation was on September 21, 2012.
