29 CFR 1926.859(g):  The employer did not ensure that:  During demolition, continuing inspections by a competent person shall be made as the work progresses to detect hazards resulting from weakened or deteriorated floors, or walls, or loosened material.  No employee shall be permitted to work where such hazards exist until they are corrected by shoring, bracing, or other effective means:    a)  A competent person was not present at the worksite when demolition of structural steel beams was occurring; personnel were cutting down 40 ft long steel I-beams without a crane or other means to support the beam while it is being cut.  Construction personnel were exposed to structural collapse hazards.  A beam fell, injuring a worker and causing a second beam and the supporting masonry column to collapse.    Location:  17 DeVoe Street, Brooklyn, N.Y.     On or about  10/3/2012     NOTE: THE EMPLOYER IS REQUIRED TO SUBMIT ABATEMENT CERTIFICATION FOR THIS ITEM IN ACCORDANCE WITH 29 CFR 1903.19.
