29 CFR 1926.501(b)(1): "Unprotected sides and edges." Each employee on a walking/working surface (horizontal and vertical surface) with an unprotected side or edge which is 6 feet (1.8 m) or more above a lower level shall be protected from falling by the use of guardrail systems, safety net systems, or personal fall arrest systems. The Rock On Framing, Inc. was previously cited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard or its equivalent standard 29 CFR 1926.501(b)(1), which was contained in OSHA inspection number 531838, citation number 1, item number 3 and was affirmed as a final order on August 22,2012, with respect to a workplace located at 575 24 1/2 Road, Grand Junction, CO 81501. On or about March 12, 2013, on a steep roof, the employer did not ensure employees working approximately 15 feet above the unfinished ground used fall protection. Instance a: Employees on the west side of a steep roof installing plywood decking harnesses were not attached to a rope grab device or a vertical lifeline that was attached to an anchor on the roof. This exposed the employees to fall hazards of approximately 15 feet to the unfinished ground below. Instance b: an employee on the eas tside of a steep roof installing woodframing, harness was not attached to a rope grab device or a vertical lifeline that was attached to an anchor on the roof. This exposed the employee to fall hazards of approximately 15 feet to the unfinished ground below. Instance c: an employee on the east side on a ladder jack installing wood framing, harness was not attached to a rope grab device or a vertical lifeline that was attached to an anchor on the roof. This exposed the employee to fall hazards of approximately 15 feet to the unfinished ground below.
