At least two exit routes was not available in the workplace to permit prompt evacuation of employees and other building occupants during an emergency, except as allowed in paragraph (b)(3) of this section. The exit routes must be located as far away as practical from each other so that if one exit route is blocked by fire or smoke, employees can evacuate using the second exit route. (a) On March 18, 2013, in the ABC Tire Facility, employees were exposed to serious injuries in that there were no properly constructed exit doors in the facility for egress in the event of an emergency. Employees had to use the overhead dock doors which had be manually raised and then either jump or use a ladder to the ground 41 inches below.
