29 CFR 1926.602(c)(1)(vi): Industrial truck(s) in use did not meet the applicable requirements of design, construction, stability, inspection, testing, maintenance, and operation, as defined in American National Standards Institute B56.1-1969, Safety Standards for Powered Industrial Trucks. Per Section 603 E of the ANSI B56.1 1969 Safety Standard for Powered Industrial Trucks, when leaving a powered industrial truck unattended, load engaging means shall be fully lowered, controls shall be neutralized, power shut off and brakes set, key or connector plug removed and block wheels if truck is parked on an incline. a. Dutch Ridge Apartment Building: The operator of the Case 686 GRX rough terrain fork lift had left the machine with the forks of the machine supporting a platform which was approximately 4 feet deep by 16 feet wide approximately 12 feet off the ground while he went inside the building to the second level to climb out the window in order to work off the platform himself as determined on 4-5-13. Front of Dutch Ridge Apartment Unit B 2: An elevated work platform approximately 4 feet deep by 16 feet long which was supported by the forks of the Case 686 GXR rough terrain forklift positioned in the fork pockets of the platform but was not secured by any means to the fork lift itself. The platform was approximately 12 feet off the ground and used by an employee to install the soffit as determined on 4-5-13. Abatement Certification Required for this Item.
