29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): One or more methods of machine guarding was not provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, and rotating parts; a) Gas furnace strip line. On or about April 16, employees were exposed to caught-in hazards where multiple in-going nip points were not guarded: - Pay-off had 1 pinch point on the yellow driver roller by the welding station. - Entry bridle had 3 pinch points; middle station with the blue driver roller and blue snubber roller, middle yellow driver roller prior to the door entry. - Exit bridle had 5 pinch points; 1st yellow driver roller, middle station with the blue driver roller and blue snubber roller, red positioning roller between middle station and the unloading station, and the last discharge roller at the unloading station. b) Electric furnace strip line. On or about April 16, employees were exposed to caught-in hazards where multiple in-going nip points were not guarded: - Pay-off had 1 pinch point on the green driver roller by the welding station. - Entry bridle had 3 pinch points including the door; middle station with the green driver roller and blue snubber roller, middle green driver roller prior to the door entry. - Exit bridle had 5 pinch points; 1st green driver roller, middle station with the green driver roller and snubber roller, gray positioning roller between middle station and the unloading station, and lthe last discharge roller at the unloading station. Abatement certification is required of this item in accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1903.19(c).
