29 CFR 1910.23(c)(1): Every open-sided floor or platform 4 feet or more above adjacent floor or ground level shall be guarded by a standard railing (or the equivalent as specified in paragraph (e)(3) of this section) on all open sides except where there is entrance to a ramp, stairway, or fixed ladder. The railing shall be provided with a toeboard wherever, beneath the open sides, Employees engaged in visor and light installation and maintenance activities at the roof of semi tractors in the body shop were exposed to fall hazards of 5 feet from the top of the motor to the ground below in that fall protection was not provided.

29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): Types of guarding. One or more methods of machine guarding shall be provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks. Examples of guarding methods are-barrier guards, two-hand tripping devices, electronic safety devices, etc. Employees engaged in body shop activities using the Westwood drill press in the body shop were exposed to struck-by hazards in that the drill press was not equipped with a chip guard.
