29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): One or more methods of machine guarding was not provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks: a. LOWER AREA, SMALL SAW: Employees were using a Kaltenbach circular chop saw Nr. 19778 with a 3' diameter blade to cut steel beams and channel. The saw was not adequately guarded on the front rear and side exposing employees within 10.5" of the unguarded portion of the blade as observed on 5/08/13. b. LOWER AREA, LARGE SAW: Employees were using a Kaltenbach circular chop saw Nr. 26039 with a 5' diameter blade to cut steel beams and channel. The saw was not adequately guarded on the front rear and side exposing employees within 10.5" of the unguarded portion of the blade as determined on 5/08/13. Abatement Certification Required For These Items.

29 CFR 1910.212(a)(3)(ii): Point of operation guards were not designed and constructed as to prevent the operator from having any part of their body in the danger zone during the operating cycle: a. UPPER PART OF THE FAB AREA: Employees were using the Hydra Tool Company 8' shear to cut metal plate. The point of operation guard would not prevent employees from coming in contact with the hold downs and shear blade in that the guard was 1-3/8" to 1-3/4" above the table and within 4-3/4" to 7-3/4" from the points of operation as determined on 5/08/13. Abatement Verified During Inspection.
